22 Weeks Post Shave

It's been 22 weeks since I shaved off my hair and I'm still loving the journey. The above picture was taken two days ago after I had used a shower cap to help the products penetrate into my strands. I used my homemade leave in conditioner followed by my homemade hair and scalp oil. Next I applied my homemade moisturising lotion followed by my homemade conditioning balm. Then I covered my hair with a shower cap and left it on for 30 minutes. My hair felt soft and moisturised using this method.

I deep condition with various homemade deep conditioners on a regular basis. I like to use Squalane in my deep conditioners because it's similar to squalene which is found in human sebum. According to the Cosmetic Ingredients database, Squalane has a 'refatting' function which means that it replenishes the lipids in the hair. Squalane also conditions the hair and skin. I've been using Coconut Oil as an overnight pre-wash treatment for months. I rarely use pure Coconut Oil immediately post wash because it sometimes makes my hair feel dry and brittle. A study has shown that Coconut Oil helps to prevent protein loss when 'used as a pre-wash and post wash grooming product' so I like to use it in my rinse out and deep conditioners.
