I've been using Avalon Organics Clarifying Lemon Shampoo for over 8 years as it does a great job at removing product build-up from my hair. However, prior to cutting my hair earlier this month I noticed that the shampoo was drying out the skin on my face. After using the shampoo, the lines on my forehead and between my eyes appeared to deepen. It seems that the shampoo was stripping the oils from my face as well as my hair. Thankfully my skin quickly went back to normal when I moisturised my hair and scalp but I have decided not to use the shampoo as often as I used to.
I was drawn to the shampoo because it's sulfate-free and it contains a lot of natural ingredients. Furthermore, I believe that it's important to clarify my hair prior to protein treatments as this gives the amino acids the chance to stick to the weak areas of my hair. When using the shampoo in the future, I plan to avoid getting it onto my scalp. At the moment it's impossible for me to shampoo my hair without shampooing my scalp so I'll wait until my hair is longer to use the shampoo.
